Bird wing found on Morris Island, SC. Branches, map, pluff mud, branches and image transfers set in hand-built wood box with hinged doors. Hanging requires two screws in the wall that fit in the bracket on the back of piece.
8″ x 40″ x 4″

My Dad taught me how to use the table saw years ago. I still use the original saw he found for me at a garage sale. It is small enough to move around my studio and perfect for my needs. This wooden box has hinged doors that open and close. The bird wing was found on Morris Island, SC and assembled on top of rusted metal found on St. Philip Street in downtown Charleston. The photograph of birds on a wire was transferred on the map-lined surface. Branches drilled into the box with mud and glue finish the piece off.

This sculpture was one of the first in this series of meditation on my detachment and connection with nature. It is my search for wholeness in a modern world fueled by fast-paced technology and materialism.

*This piece was selected for the South Carolina Biennial exhibition at 701 Center for Contemporary Art Columbia, SC in 2015.*
