Acrylic on birch wood panel, 12″ x 12″
This painting started as a simple sketch on a green post-it. My paintings normally conceptualize, not as a whole, but as a fraction of an idea, a small sliver of the composition revealed. Very rarely do I complete a painting without manipulating it every step of the way. The starting off point for this painting was the resting hand on the shoulder. With purposeful placement, this stranger’s hand helped create the movement of the composition, and give form to the negative space.
