24” x 24”, acrylic + black tea on canvas
About the piece:
This piece marks the beginning of a new practice in my work, which involves the process of working with canvas as a textile and surface for paint. The canvas has been soaked in black tea and diluted paint before being primed with clear gesso. This allows the canvas to absorb the pigments rather than sit atop of the canvas. Shapes created from a study of collages have been painted on top of the primed canvas creating a separate, defined layer of paint. It is a conversation between ambiguousness and structure and the the harmony between a fixed and fluid existence.
