Mixed media on canvas, 48″x 48″, 2014. This painting is on a stretched canvas and ready to be hung.
The title, “Orchid Fall”, refers both to the color and the season during which it was made. It was in October and I was surrounded by all this beautiful fall foliage and shades of yellow, orange, and red. Everything with this piece was going along normally, but all of a sudden one night, I just had this irresistible urge to completely paint the whole thing bright pink! The Pantone “color of the year” in 2014 was “Orchid”, which I obviously used a lot of in this painting. I guess you could say this is a defiant piece, but in a good-natured way. I had to give in to the changing season but I figured it could go out with a big pink bang.
