Fabric, 40†x 30″
About this piece:
I salvaged this fabric from my studio in West Oakland, which is part of an old hat factory filled with hat forms and textiles. I chose the thong shape and scale to give the effect of a flag, literally waving the garment in your face. Hanging a giant thong on a wall creates somewhat of an elephant in the room, but is also playful and humorous. It neutralizes everything. What you chose to hang on a gallery wall or cover your body with are the types of personal decisions that come with a lot of judgement. This speaks to letting your freak flag fly and taking it all with a grain of salt.
