About this piece:
Of all the pieces in the series, this is the one that revisits my past the most. Many years ago, I was fortunate to visit Italy. What has stuck with me all these years was the beautiful sheer age of the walls and architecture. A quality rarely found in shiny, new America. The imperfections, layers, marks and stories have influenced all my work over the years. This quality can be seen mostly clearly in “Sgraffito”. The alternate title might be the ‘elegant prison’, a hermit’s solitude, where time is literally seen in lines and marks.
