About the piece:
Whenever I see this piece, I see a winged insect in it. In my process I use rags to pick up some of the powdered charcoal I use to coat the paper, and the marks made by them create much of the blueprint for the composition. I feel like an archeologist dusting bones in gentle layers to slowly reveal something. These drawings happen much the same way- I work with erasers, charcoal and pencil to search out the composition until it finds its form.
