About this piece:
Growing up in the town of Myrtle Beach, SC, I spent a lot of time at water parks and sneaking into resorts. I’m still convinced it’s the lazy river capital of America. I find the whole concept of floating in an endless loop really funny. It is an invitation to disconnect and relax in a controlled environment (that is actually filled with screaming children). The designs can be really intricate too, with bridges, multiple loops, and fountains. It’s an architectural art form and a fascinating use of resources.
