5 x 5 (x 2)” – collage and acrylic on panel, ready to hang
Something happens when you remove part of the image from a frame that originally was intended to capture a moment. So then what: do you fill it with something else? Old photos are meant to tell stories and remind us of places, but in fragmented form they tell us other things too. My brain goes into overdrive when I start making rectangles interact with other rectangles in simulated space. I can’t tell you why certain things work; they just do. This piece was one of the early ones in this body of work, and it stands for me as an emblem of a working method.
