Soft Power

7.5″ x 8.5″, acrylic  on wooden panel,2017

About the piece:
Based on a paper collage, this painting is encompasses my time thus far in Oakland. Most of the homes in my neighborhood were built in the 1960’s and painted a shade of mustard yellow that has since been bleached by the sun, which in the late afternoon casts an intense orange glow on everything. Living in Oakland during the time of Trump’s Presidency has also been a invigorating reminder of this community’s dedication to social justice. This piece is an ode to Oakland’s beauty and power, as well as the importance of peaceful protesting.
