About the Piece:
This painting posed a unique challenge in regards to the long, panoramic format of the canvas. A friend said the composition reminded them of Michelangelo’s “Creation of Adam”, the painting where God’s hand is reaching towards Adam in a very long, horizontal composition. An artist’s subconscious visual library can be a powerful thing apparently! Ultimately, I think the real inspiration were the piles of windblown Bougainvillea petals that gathered in swirls on the patios around our house in LA. The dried petals were pinkish brown and fuchsia. They would form the most beautiful swirled formations of color in the nooks and crannies where they ended up. I would see them everyday.
