Delicate Persistence

$1,000.00

Assemblage of found objects (wire mesh, maps, epoxy embroidery hoop with root, feather, computer circuit, graphite drawings) contemplating the clear-cut of forest for the development of new homes. Ready to hang.
18″ x 24″ x 1″

This art piece was a turning point for me. It was the beginning of incorporating my drawings with my found objects. The drawing is the forest that lined the marsh in my neighborhood that was recently torn down to build track houses that are two feet apart. The rest of the composition brings together contrasting imagery to represent this current building practice on James Island and across Charleston, SC. A honeybee sewn onto bark on metal mesh, a feather delicately placed next to computer wires, a drawing of a woman on a map of the ocean and a root set in epoxy resin never to grow further.
