About this piece:
This work is an example of the repetitious bun shape—how many ways can you say the same thing? I love playing with the idea of a spacious background that breathes and very sharp and distinct lines and shapes that sit or float on top of that space. Sometimes if I am stuck while working on a piece I will switch brushes. That happened during the making of this painting–when I changed over to a small, square brush I immediately dove into the fresh magenta paint and felt reenergized, which comes through in the energy of the brushwork in the pink section here. That part of the painting plays nicely with the calm, repetitious rendering of the black line on the bun next to it.
