All I Wanna Do (Oakland)

7.5″ x 7.5″ Acrylic on wooden panel, 2017
About the piece:
This painting is based on a collage inspired by my late afternoon strolls around Oakland. Compared to where I grew up on the East Coast, the buildings and houses in Oakland feel very new, but also possess a nostalgic and retro quality that is very Americana. The houses are flanked with decorative wrought iron railings, brightly colored stucco, and stacked stone facades. I love how decidedly playful yet practical it looks. The color and texture of this piece was inspired by my favorite hand painted sign in East Oakland belonging to a gentleman who sells watermelons out of the back of his truck.
